Description:

This class is to familiarize home inspectors with a general understanding of Building Science where it relates to the control layers that assist in forming the envelope of a building. We will discuss how this ever-emerging industry has taken the blinders off the way we “used to think” regarding our building practices. Things we will be discussing:

· how air, liquid water and water vapor move within and through a building structure.

· Where we got it wrong in the past

· How “where we got it wrong” has negatively impacted our indoor air quality.

This class will include both definitions of terminologies and explanations of the components that make up a building envelope, to include the purpose of thermal boundaries, pressure boundaries, as well as the importance of proper placement and installation of these components. Also included will be discussion regarding how mechanical systems affect air movement through a building, how building components which make up a house are interrelated, and how all these systems, when correctly installed, can be utilized to create a safe comfortable environment for building dwellers. As with all of our Building Science classes, this class is designed to help guide home
