Disclaimer

Although members are licensed, insured, and required to complete a minimum of (24) hours of NYS approved continuing education every two years, the Southern Tier Association of Home Inspectors (STAHI) assumes no legal responsibility or liability for their actual job performance.  All members are independent businesses with varying skills, varying levels of experience and offer various scopes of services.  You are strongly recommended to interview and research fully any member prior to purchasing any services.

Any complaints or concerns about specific members must be filed with the proper authorities and/or consumer advocacy group(s) since STAHI is not a regulating or supervising organization.

Complaint Resolution Recommendations

1. STAHI does not become involved in any type of arbitration or mediation if a client/inspector dispute arises.

2.  Stay in contact with your home inspector through phone messaging, text messaging and/or email.  The inspector may be able to resolve your concerns quickly but please allow (24-48) hours for a response since the inspector may have to review report documents, site photos, etc.

3.  Review the “Report” carefully.  Your concern(s) may already have been documented.  The documentation is critical and much more important than anyone’s recollection of events at the time of the inspection.

4.  Review the “Pre-Inspection Agreement” to see if your concerns are included in the scope of work and if there are contractual obligations for any parties involved.

STAHI Meeting Terms of Service

By attending a STAHI meeting, You confirm that you understand and agree that:

1) STAHI is a not-for-profit professional association established in part to provide a platform for collegial sharing of information among its licensed Home Inspector members and individuals involved in allied professions and trades, and for providing opportunities for NYS-approved continuing education to its licensed Home Inspector members.  As such, You agree to hold STAHI, as well as its membership, officers, directors, contractors, and presenters harmless from any claims or damages that you or your business may incur or allege to occur as a result of anything related to this meeting.

2) Any information provided by anyone during a STAHI meeting is offered informally for collegial sharing and your awareness only and that You and your business shall not rely on it for any purpose unless You independently verify it.

3) You understand that, unless specifically identified as such, no person at a STAHI meeting is a lawyer, and that any statements regarding legal matters are made by persons who are not legal professionals, and that you should not rely on these non-professional evaluations of any legal matters discussed and that You should consult your attorney regarding them.

4) You agree that any presentations made during the STAHI meeting contain presentation documents or digital presentation preparations that are proprietary to the presenter and that You will not in any way reproduce such to share with others without the express written permission of the presenter.

5) As an NYS licensed Home Inspector you are required by NYS law and regulation to be visually present and attentive for the full duration of a continuing education training course and hereby agree that, if in the sole judgment of the course instructor and/or their designated monitor(s) You are not effectively present and attentive (except for very brief absence of necessity), or are disruptive of instruction, You may be removed from the course without notice and You will not receive credit for the course or refund for any payment made by You for course attendance.
